Journal Checker Tool

What Is It

Journal Checker Tool is an online tool where you can check if you are able to publish in a particular journal or serial according to the Open Access policy set by your funder.

The tool is developed by cOAlition S, an international consortium of national research agencies and funders aligned to the initiative Plan S. Plan S aims to make scientific publications based on publicly funded research should be immediately available in Open Access.

What Is Included

The tool collects:

1. Open Access journals and platforms, journals covered by transformative Open Access agreements, and transformative journals (journals that have committed to transitioning to fully OA).

2. Funders who are part of cOAlition S (including the Swedish funders Formas, FORTE, and Vinnova).

3. Universities/research institution.

How to Use It

To use the tool, enter the following:

1. The ISSN or the title of the journal or serial you wish to publish with.

2. Your research funder.

3. Your current institution.

This information will be checked against the publisher's and research funder's Open Access policies and any Open Access agreements your institution might be part of.

The tool then provides advice on whether the chosen option is a compliant publishing route, and, for example, whether parallel publishing is required for publishing in a particular journal.
